What is Modified Stave Notation (MSN)?

Modified Stave Notation (MSN) is a way of enlarging and enhancing sheet music so that it can be read by visually impaired musicians.

We have a small collection of standardised MSN or large print music in our library which is 16mm or the 24 point equivalent.

We can also help with a variety of different aspects of MSN such as:

  • Whether MSN might be of benefit
  • Ways of producing MSN independently
  • Music modified to individual requirements

Further information about the above and general information on Modified Stave Notation can be found on our MSN web pages. You can also contact our Helpline:

For further information about different ways to read music see What are the different ways for me to read music?
