What is Modified Stave Notation (MSN)?

Modified Stave Notation (MSN) is a way of enlarging and enhancing sheet music so that it can be read by musicians with sight loss.

RNIB have a small collection of standardised MSN or large print music in their library which is 16mm or the 24 point equivalent.

RNIB can also help with a variety of different aspects of MSN such as:

  • Whether MSN might be of benefit
  • Ways of producing MSN independently
  • Music modified to individual requirements

Further information about the above and general information on Modified Stave Notation can be found on RNIB's MSN webpages.
