How can I plan my journey on the London Underground?

The Transport for London (TFL) journey planner has been designed to work well with screen reader software such as JAWS. You can also find live bus and train departure times on their website.

TFL produces a range of free maps in large print and braille, including 'avoiding stairs' and 'step free' maps. Their map of the Underground is also available in audio, black and white and an online map app that allows you to view tube maps in six alternative versions for those with colour blindness.

Please note that braille maps are only available on request by contacting the TFL customer services: [email protected].

TFL run a free Travel Mentoring Service, which offers advice on planning an accessible journey route in London and provides a mentor free of charge to do the route with you on your first few journeys, email [email protected] for more information.

You can buy and top up Oyster cards at station ticket booths or Travel Information Centres. Once you have loaded credit to your card, you can use it to for pay as you go journeys and add on travelcards for the train or bus. If you use your bank card or mobile phone payment, you cannot add travel cards or bus passes, you can only pay as you go.
