How can I stop a bus?

There are a number of steps you can take to help you stop a bus:

  • Make yourself visible to the bus driver.
  • Stand close to the stop and face the direction that the bus will arrive from.
  • If you use a long or short cane, try to make it visible by holding it out in front of you.
  • Use a bus hailer card, often provided by local councils and transport authorities. These are laminated cards that have a bus number or the word bus on them which you hold up.
