Do I have to stop working now that I've lost my sight?

No, you shouldn't have to stop working - but you will need to speak to your employer about the changes to your sight, so that they can support you to make any reasonable adjustments that you require to stay working.

In England, Scotland and Wales you are covered by the Equality Act. In Northern Ireland this is the Disability Discrimination Act. The Equality Act says that employers have to make reasonable adjustments for people with a disability, such as sight loss. This might include providing equipment or software, altering lighting levels or changing your job description to reassign some duties.

Our website has detailed information about your rights in employment and guidance on how to stay in work following sight loss. Give us a call on 0303 123 9999  if you want to discuss your situation further.
