Will I be assessed if I make a claim for PIP?

After you have submitted Part 2 of your PIP claim form, including any additional supporting evidence, it will be sent to an independent assessment provider. Due to the pandemic most assessments are now carried out by telephone or video link, rather than face-to-face and this continues to be the case. However face-to-face assessments are still available for anyone who requires them.

If you are asked to do so, it is very important that you attend the consultation. If you do not do this and do not have a good reason (sometimes called a good cause) then this could mean that the DWP or DfC in Northern Ireland reject your claim for PIP.

You will be assessed by a health professional working for a private company that carries out PIP assessments for the DWP/DfC. The company is known as an assessment provider. The final decision on your entitlement is made by a decision maker at the DWP/DfC, using the evidence from the assessor, including any face-to-face, telephone or video consultation.
