Can I get help with my debts?

We always recommend that you talk to the company that you owe the debt to first. They may be able to work out a reasonable payment plan with you or, for utility companies, may even have a hardship fund that can help you out.

We have a partnership with Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB) on a project called "Face-to-Face" to provide more opportunities for people with sight problems to get face-to-face debt advice. If you live or work in one of the following 10 areas in England we can make an appointment for you with a CAB money advisor, the areas are:

  • Gateshead
  • Bradford
  • Sheffield
  • Rotherham
  • Greater Manchester
  • Liverpool
  • Stoke-on-Trent
  • Wolverhampton
  • Walsall
  • Greater London.

Money advisors may also be able to visit you in your home. If you do not live or work in one of the 10 areas listed above, we may still be able to help or can tell you about local money advice services.

If have you any money advice enquiries or would like to make an appointment with one of the CABs named above, please contact adviceservice@rnib.org.uk

If you do not live in one of the areas above, your local CABs may still have a specialist debt department and we recommend you contact them to find if they offer this service. To find your local CAB, visit the CAB website

If you're still having problems, call our Helpline on 0303 123 9999 or email helpline@rnib.org.uk and one of our advisers can recommend an organisation that gives debt advice, for example StepChange or a local money advice service.

Depending on where you live, we might also be able to make a referral to a Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) money advisor through RNIB’s partnership with the CAB “Face-to-Face” project.
