I've just had a diagnosis of AMD, what happens next?

This depends on the type of AMD (age-related macular degeneration) you have been diagnosed with:

  • If you have been told you have 'wet' AMD, you should be offered treatment which will mean monthly visits to the hospital.
  • If you have been told you have 'dry' AMD, you may be seen at the hospital again in 6 to 12 months, but you may be discharged from the hospital into the care of your optometrist who will monitor your eyes regularly.

If you notice a sudden change in vision you should get in touch with your hospital as soon as possible, whatever type of AMD you have been diagnosed with. Our information on AMD may also be helpful.
