What treatments are available for glaucoma?

If you have been diagnosed with glaucoma, there are a number of treatments that can help keep it under control. Treatment cannot repair or improve damage that might have already been caused by the condition before it was found.

Most people with glaucoma will have to use eye drops every day. These eye drops control glaucoma in most cases, but laser and surgery can also be used if drops don't work for you. The treatments for glaucoma work by reducing the pressure in the eye, or improving the blood supply to the optic nerve.

It is important for everyone to have a regular eye test because the most common type of glaucoma has no symptoms and you can lose sight to glaucoma without knowing it's happening.
