How can I make my domestic appliances easier to use?

Labelling

You can label different functions of your appliances using Tacti-Mark or Bumpons.

Tacti-Mark is a liquid which goes hard when dry. Bumpons are small raised stickers, and are available in a variety of different colours and sizes.

Both can be used to mark a particular button or dial position, for example where the 30 degree wash is on your washing machine.

You can buy Tacti-Mark or bumpons through RNIBs online shop, or through our Helpline on:

Specialised appliances

There are specialised appliances which have been adapted to make them easier to use for people with sight loss. This includes talking kitchen equipment, microwaves and thermostats.

Thomas Pocklington Trust and Rica have produced a useful guide called 'Choosing cookers, ovens, hobs and microwaves' which is available to download as a PDF:
