I have sight loss, can I still use my mobility scooter?
There are no laws or legal requirements related to eyesight and using a mobility scooter. However, you should only ride a mobility scooter if it is safe to do so. The government recommend you only ride your scooter if you can see a car's registration plate from 12.5 metres (40 feet) away.
Remember, riding a mobility scooter if your level of sight is not good enough could be dangerous to both you and other pedestrians and road users.
If you do decide to continue using your scooter, you should consider getting insurance. This will help cover the costs of any damage to your scooter in the event of an accident, as well as any legal costs if you are involved in an accident claim.
If you buy a new scooter, or it has been a while since you last used your scooter, you should practice in a quiet area before taking it out somewhere busy.
